Editorial policy
This site is paid for by advertising. That creates an obvious incentive to be flattering about the products it advertises. This page sets out the rules we work to so that the incentive does not decide the content, and it is written so that you can hold us to it.
1. Who writes here
Editorial responsibility for boricva.online rests with Lisa Thomas, editor and director of publication, on behalf of Ayvag Plus s.r.o., Modrého 996/11, Vysočany, 190 00 Praha 9, Czech Republic. Every article carries a named byline, a publication date and a last-reviewed date. Where a page is factual reference material rather than assessment, it says so.
We do not publish anonymously, we do not use invented author personas, and we do not publish material supplied by an advertiser under one of our bylines.
2. How facts get established
- Primary sources first. For what a product contains, the vendor’s own documentation, comparison table and support pages. For test results, the testing laboratory’s own published report. For legal points, the text of the directive or statute. Not a press release about a report, and not another affiliate page.
- Every page lists its sources. Named, so you can go and check.
- What we cannot verify, we hedge or we cut. If we cannot establish a claim, it is either labelled as unverified, attributed to whoever is making it, or it does not appear.
- Opinion is labelled as opinion. “Our reading”, “our view”, “we think” — an assessment is not a fact and is not dressed as one.
- Everything is dated, and prices are not printed. Software pricing changes weekly. A price on an affiliate page is stale almost immediately, so we send you to the vendor’s checkout instead of quoting a figure.
- The vendor prevails. Where this site and the vendor’s own current documentation disagree, the vendor is right and we are out of date. That is stated on every page.
3. How this site is funded
boricva.online earns money in exactly one way: affiliate commission. Links marked partner link lead to a vendor or an affiliate network. If you buy after following one, Ayvag Plus s.r.o. receives a percentage of the sale from the vendor. You pay the same price you would have paid going directly — the commission comes out of the vendor’s margin, not out of your pocket.
We disclose this in four places on every commercial page: a bar at the very top of the page, a box immediately under the main heading before any promotional content, a label rendered inside every button, and a sentence under every call to action. That is more than the law requires. We do it because a reader who does not know how a page is funded cannot properly weigh what it says.
We do not take payment for coverage, for placement, for a rating or for a favourable sentence. We do not sell advertising space on the page. We run no display advertising, no sponsored posts and no paid guest articles. We have no sponsorship, no ownership relationship and no commercial agreement with any vendor named on this site beyond a standard affiliate arrangement that pays on sales.
4. What we refuse to publish
These are firm, and they are the reason the pages on this site look different from most in this category.
- No invented testimonials. No “reader story”, no customer quote we cannot evidence, no name and photograph attached to words nobody said. An earlier version of this site’s main article was framed as a reader-submitted story. It was not one, and the framing has been removed.
- No invented ratings. No “9.4/10”, no star rating, no “Editor’s Choice” badge, no scoring system that has no methodology behind it. If we ever publish a score, the method will be published with it.
- No fabricated statistics. No invented infection rates, no made-up survey, no percentage we cannot source. If a number appears here it has a source, and if we cannot find one the sentence is rewritten without it.
- No fabricated specifications. We do not list a feature because it sounds good. Four features were removed from this site’s main article for exactly that reason.
- No artificial urgency. No countdown timers, no “offer ends at midnight” where it does not, no “only 3 licences remaining” for a digital product that cannot run out. Aggressive practices of this kind are, in the EU, unfair commercial practices under Directive 2005/29/EC, and they are also simply dishonest.
- No guaranteed outcomes. No security product can promise that you will not be infected, and we will not print a claim that implies one.
- No fake scanning or fake system warnings. A web page cannot inspect your computer. Nothing on this site will ever pretend to.
- No hidden advertising. Every commercial link is labelled as one, in the body text, in the sidebar, everywhere.
- No comparison table in which the advertised product wins every row. Real products have weaknesses, and a table that hides them is an advertisement pretending to be a comparison.
5. Independence from advertisers
- Advertisers do not see content before publication. They have no right of review, no right of approval and no right of veto.
- Advertisers cannot request changes to editorial content. They can, and should, report a factual error, which we then verify against primary sources and correct if it is one. Correcting an error is not the same as accepting a request.
- Commission rates play no part in what we recommend, in what order things appear, or in how warmly anything is described.
- Criticism stays in. The main article on this site sets out the case against buying the product it advertises, including a regulatory settlement involving the vendor and the observation that a free alternative already runs on most readers’ machines. None of that was removed and none of it will be.
- If an advertiser ever made continued commission conditional on removing criticism, we would end the relationship and say on this page that we had.
6. Images and diagrams
Every illustration on this site is an original SVG diagram drawn for boricva.online. We use no stock photography, no vendor screenshots and no third-party images — partly because reproducing a vendor’s interface on an advertising-funded page raises copyright and trademark questions, and partly because a diagram that explains a mechanism is worth more than a picture of a dashboard. Every diagram carries a caption saying what it shows and a full text alternative for screen readers.
7. Corrections procedure
We will get things wrong. When we do:
- Report it to info@boricva.online, ideally with the page address and a source. Anyone may do this — reader, advertiser, competitor, anyone.
- We acknowledge within five working days.
- We check it against primary sources. The vendor’s documentation, the laboratory’s report, the legal text.
- Substantive errors are corrected promptly and the last-reviewed date is updated.
- We record the correction publicly. A factual error that materially changed the meaning of a page gets a dated correction note on that page. We do not silently edit. The main article carries such a note listing eight claims that were wrong in its previous version.
- Typographical fixes are made without a note.
- If we disagree that something is an error, we will tell you why, and cite what we relied on.
8. Conflicts of interest
Ayvag Plus s.r.o. has no shareholding in, and receives no payment from, any vendor named on this site other than affiliate commission on sales. The editor holds no position in any company discussed. Should that ever change, it will be disclosed on the page concerned.
9. Complaints
If you believe this site has breached the standards on this page, write to info@boricva.online. Complaints are read by the responsible editor, Lisa Thomas, and answered.
